The art world is buzzing over the latest bold prank perpetrated by Banksy. The world-renowned graffiti artist shredded one of his artworks the moment it was sold at auction for $1.4 million.
Banksy revealed on Instagram his remote-control paper shredder hidden within the picture frame of a painting called Girl With Balloon. Sotheby’s handled the auction. The highest bidder paid $1.4 million and the moment the gavel dropped, the shredder went into action.
The painting began to slide out of its frame in one hundred thin strips. The crowd gasped and then applauded at Banksy’s brilliance. The person who had just bought it, was probably not clapping, although the artwork could actually be worth more now.
