Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee officially declared Tuesday (June 2) Randy Travis Day in honor of the 40th anniversary of the country legend’s debut studio album.
Travis, 67, shared Lee’s recognition of Randy Travis Day as he posted photos on Instagram. The photos showed the unveiling ceremony of a new marker at the former site of Morningstar Sound Studio, where Travis recorded his 1986 studio record, Storms of Life. The waterfront location is now hailed Point Amen. The Tennessee Music Pathways marker appears outside Moby Dicky’s Restaurant, located at 155 Sanders Ferry Rd. In Hendersonville, Tennessee, outside of Nashville, according to a press release issued Tuesday evening.
“Wonderful things, wonderful communities, events like this, are built when older gentlemen plant trees under whose shade they know they will never sit,” Travis’ wife, Mary Travis, said. “Without everyone here today, and without all those who came before us, laid the groundwork, and helped shape the music industry into what it is, none of this would be possible. They talk about all his awards and accolades but Randy always said 'these awards are built out of blood, sweat, and tears there, not metal and crystal.' And Randy sure put the work in and it’s been a beautiful journey and it’s been such an honor to walk alongside him and be able to enjoy this incredible honor today.”
On Wednesday (June 3), The Nashville Palace, an iconic venue in Music City where Travis worked as a cook and a dishwasher in the early '80s, will officially dedicate the Randy Travis Room in honor of his “groundbreaking” Storms of Life album.
“Oh, this is cool,” iHeartRadio’s Anne Hudson recently said as she shared details on Nashville’s The BIG 98.. “Have you ever been to the Nashville Palace? It’s one of Nashville’s iconic venues, and they’ve announced that they’re going to recognize none other than Randy Travis on June 3. You know, he’s celebrating the 40th anniversary of his debut album called ‘Storms of Life, and they said to honor him, they’re gonna rename one of their front rooms after Randy Travis himself.”
