Even though we may not be out Trick-or-Treating this year, that doesn't mean we can sit back on the couch, eat a bowl of candy and watch Hocus Pocus on repeat.
Having too much candy can of course lead to cavities, as we all know. According toDDS, Matthew Messina he said the reason for candy being so harmful to teeth is due to the bacteria in your mouth, it then burns the sugar, creating acid as a byproduct. If you are trying to stay away from certain candies that will ruin your teeth, here are the top few to avoid.
- Sticky candy- taffy, anything gummy because they linger in your mouth.
- Sour candies- contain both sugar and acid
- Lollipops
- Hard candies- stick around in your mouth for a long time.
- Chocolates- chocolate dissipates fairly quickly, it's not as much of a health risk for tooth decay as the other options, but still should be consumed in moderation.
What is your favorite Halloween candy?!
